
At the last IBUG meeting, there was some interest in exploring how we could implement a regular active transport count here. Here is a great model from Portland, Oregon, which has been running a highly effective bicycle count program for many years.

It’s well worth taking the time to scroll to the bottom of the page and check out the various reports. They’re truly impressive — not just in terms of data, but in how they support advocacy and planning for better bike and pedestrian infrastructure.
An annual count in the Illawarra could be a fantastic initiative for IBUG to undertake — it would help build a strong evidence base for improvements and raise the visibility of active transport in our community.
