Meetings

We meet at 6:30pm on the second Monday of the month (except January) at the Corrimal Community Centre and occasionally on Zoom.

Members are notified of upcoming meetings via email and we post a meeting reminder on FaceBook @bikeillawarra and @BikeWollongong.

Meetings are not mandatory for members and are open to anyone interested.

Action subcommittees

Subcommittees are formed to carry out the actions in our Strategic Plan and annual work plan. We often collaborate using Google Drive and Slack.

Benefits of Membership

Membership is about working toward positive change together. We’d love you to join us!

Help us build a strong voice in support of our mission to advocate for better cycling and actively help increase cycling participation in the Wollongong and Shellharbour Council areas. The bigger our membership the greater our voice. Let’s amplify our voices by working together.

By becoming a member of the Illawarra Bicycle User Group you join others to create a supportive community working to push for change. We are passionate and tenacious. With more members, more active volunteers, and fundraising we can achieve great things! It’s more powerful to say we represent 500 bicycle users than only 50!

We focus on pushing Councils to be more responsive to reoccurring and ongoing issues. We encourage members to report issues and make their own submissions to Councils and NSW Government. Check out our easy issues reporting how-to guide here.

The top three issues from our 2022 member survey are:

  1. Safety on roads
  2. More funding for infrastructure
  3. Maintenance of shared paths and roads

The ongoing issues members share include:

  • lack of vegetation maintenance that creates hazards for months/weeks on part of the network and no communication from Council on how they will improve maintenance
  • poorly placed barriers/bollards all over the network
  • inadequate provision for people riding at road intersections

When you become a member you are supporting our Strategic Plan and helping us achieve our vision – Wollongong and Shellharbour Local Government Areas (LGAs) are places where everyone is able to safely ride a bike on roads, shared paths and separated paths for transport, recreation, wellbeing and social connection.
